Chef Trade Certification
CHEF is gazetted as a registered TRADE in South Africa. To achieve the Chef Trade Certificate one needs to sit the Occupational Certificate: Chef Exam (External Integrated Summative Assessment).
To be eligible to sit the Occupational Certificate: Chef Exam, one needs to have:
- completed 3 years of study in an accredited culinary institution, offering the Occupational Certificate: Chef Qualification (SAQA ID: 101697 – Level 5), including 18 months in school and 18 months industry experience
OR
- through an RPL process, proving competence in all modules of the Occupational Certificate: Chef Exam Qualification (SAQA ID: 101697 – Level 5 qualification)
Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning (ARPL)
The Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process through which formal, non-formal and informal learning are measured, mediated for recognition across different contexts and certified against the requirements for credit, access, inclusion or advancement in the formal education and training system or workplace. ARPL is aimed at candidates working in the industry without the new recognised Chef qualification, and means that your work experience can be measured against an existing qualification and help you to become qualified on past experience.
